Can it really be over twenty years since Justin and Jem first donned their Soul of Man hats in the studio, knocked out a completely genre-defying crunchy-breaks-acid-licking rumbler of a tune “Love & Hate” and set sail on a brand-new fledging label FINGER LICKIN’ RECORDS?
How could they have known that this little puppy would soon grow up to be the top dog of breaks and beats around the goddam world, with the masterful Abel joining the helm and a roster of some of the most exciting and original DJs and producers of the era: Plump DJs -, Krafty Kuts, A.Skillz, DrumAttic Twins aka Shades of Rhythm, Lee Coombs, slyde, not to mention those house-breaking founders themselves Soul of Man. Add to that mega collaborations including Kurtis Blow, Gary Newman, Dreadzone, Jermaine Jackson and Arthur Baker, plus all wrapped up in Jem’s iconic artwork – there really was no other label like it – and hasn’t been since.
